Fast paced, action and glamour are all words that spring to mind when talking about Focus, written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love). Sydney Social 101 was thrilled to be invited along to the preview screening here in Sydney on Monday at Event Cinemas on George Street.
The film following Will Smith’s characters, Nicky a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie – who we LOVE BTW).
Throughout the first half of the film, Nicky fears that Jess is getting too close for comfort as he teaches her the tricks of the trade and he abruptly breaks it off.
Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop…and the consummate con man off his game.
We don’t want to give too much away, however what we can say that this was a great film and a pleasant surprise. Margot dazzles in her first leading role since Wolf of Wall Street and it pains us to say, leaves Wil Smith looking a little too weathered.
The acting is great, the storyline keeps us guessing and it is well worth a watch on the big screen.
Focus is out in cinemas nationally today.
