With ten of their thirty-eight nights  sold out and more than 42,000 tickets already brought, you know the 20th season of the St George Open Air Cinema is going to be a massive summer hit again this year. Looking out from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair it is the most beautiful cinema in the world, with a stunning background of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the city skyline.

Pearl Catering are taking over the restaurant with their acclaimed team of experienced restaurant and catering professionals. They’re offering a new menu each month with a selection of delicious options for every palate. Whilst you’re enjoying the sunset over the city skyline, cosy up to the Chandon Bar for all your wine, beer, cider and cocktail needs, with a few softer options available too. My favourite is a hot Segafredo Café coffee enjoyed with a Pat & Stick’s Homemade Ice Cream, love the hot/cold yumminess. Check out more of the tasty options here.

In a nod to the flying foxes, St George Open Air Cinema have moved the grandstand and screen this season. Now when the flying foxes swoop in at night to feed, our dining will have finished at the new more comfortable grandstand, where there’ll be wider seats for all. Best of all, the views will not have changed, the entrance and WCs aren’t moving either. There’ll be no bats feeding overhead during our film viewing experience – and we won’t be disturbing the bats either.

After the sun sets, our cinematic experience will commence as the giant screen is hydraulically raised from Sydney Harbour. It reaches three storeys high so all 2000 of the grandstand seats are offered an excellent view and has an incredible 32 speaker surround sound system. The 2016 program (available here) includes more than a dozen premiere or preview films, such as the leading Sydney premiere of Looking for Grace on opening night, and then continuing the festival with Oscar® favourites Carol (Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara), The Danish Girl (Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander), Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels), Spotlight (Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber), Brooklyn (Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent), Trumbo (Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Louis C.K.), Hail, Caesar! (George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Josh Brolin, Channing Tatum), and Room (Brie Larson, William H. Macy).

As well as a selection of the summer’s most anticipated releases, including Suffragette, The Hateful 8, Joy, In the Heart of the Sea, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daddy’s Home, Point Break and Sisters. Audiences can also look forward to some of the 2015’s best films, including The Martian, Everest, The Walk, Spectre, Man Up, Sicario and Trainwreck.
