It’s that time of the year again! Place your bets, get out your fanciest fascinator and get ready for the Melbourne Cup! Here is what’s happening around Sydney on cup day ( Tuesday 7th November):


Merivale is set for a sensational Melbourne Cup with nearly thirty fever-pitched events across its unrivalled range of restaurants, bars and pubs, giving guests the reins to play the day their way.

ivy: Sydney’s leading dining and lifestyle precinct, will be bursting with race day revelry. Guests can party Italian Riviera-style at the stunning ivy Pool Club ($175) or settle in for a four-course Italian feast at Uccello, accompanied with the perfect view of the rooftop oasis ($295). Ash St. Cellar offers a slice of Europe in the heart of the city ($150) and Felix serves up Nathan Johnson’s decadent fare, with a flute of Veuve Clicquot Rosé Vintage on arrival ($225).

Coogee Pavilion: offers a coastal canapes and beach views on the Rooftop ($75).

Establishment: the grand dame of Sydney’s entertainment scene, presents a multitude of Cup Day events across its award-winning portfolio. Executive Chef Dan Hong keeps the stakes high at Mr. Wong, serving a Cantonese-style nine-dish feast ($180), as Peter Doyle plates up an elegant three-course menu at finedining institution est. ($250). Prohibition bar Palmer & Co offers a 1920s knees-up ($130) while Establishment Main Bar opens from 11am for guests first out the gate to watch the race (group bookings available).

In the tree-lined streets of the East, guests can hook a winner at The Fish Shop ($95), while the award-winning Danielle Alvarez is creating a bespoke menu of her ethically produced, seasonal fare at Fred’s, matched with a flute of Ruinart R ($200).

Barangaroo hosts Sydney’s ultimate Emirates Melbourne Cup Day celebration transforming into the city’s first official live site. In partnership with Victoria Racing Club and Maison Mumm Champagne, Cup Day Festival allows Sydneysiders to experience all the action from Flemington along the water’s edge at Barangaroo. There will be pop-up eateries and bars, flowing G.H.Mumm, and live entertainment to keep Sydney in racing mode all afternoon.

12-Micron: Enjoy some of Australia’s best produce with a four-course lunch and a glass of champagne on arrival at 12-Micron this Melbourne Cup. Sweeps, best dressed and door prizes are up for grabs.

Mrs Sippy guests will enjoy ambient luxury through Cup Day with flowing Moët & Chandon, sweepstakes, Fashions on the Field, Sydney’s largest prize pool, big screens, awesome DJ tunes, live entertainment and breathtaking theming throughout the venue. This year Mrs Sippy will feature a stunning floral wall installation, the ultimate backdrop for Cup Day snaps and selfies!

In 2017, television presenter and style icon Laura Csortan will be hosting the Mrs Sippy Melbourne Cup celebration with guests enjoying decadent three-course lunch and Moët & Chandon on arrival for just $150 per person.

Mrs Sippy always sets the fashion stakes high as the place to be on Melbourne Cup and it has continued that high standard when it comes to its Fashions on the Field prize pool. Partnering with luxury including ModelCo, Mon Purse, Sylvia Rhodes and many more; the competition for fashion’s first place will be fiercer than the horse race for the best-dressed male and female.
