Until last week, I wouldn’t have thought there was a gap in the drinking and dining Nirvana that is Surry Hills.

The all new Sydney Brewery Surry Hills has simultaneously opened and closed that argument in one delicous beer, antipasto and live music fuelled evening. The brewery that brings you fun and familiar beers like the Glamarama Sumer Ale, Paddo Pale Ale and my favourite, the Surry Hills Pils, has setup alongside Rydges on Albion Street. There’s a micro-brewery onsite, which will be used to test out experimental beers alongside all of your favourites via one of their 12 taps. Currently, there’s the Albion Ale that they’ve brewed on site.

A beer-led food menu has been crafted to compliment the craft beers and ciders on offer. All really generous sizes and with terriffic flavours that are going to have you locking this joint in as your new weeknight local. You’ll also be pleased that they have kept their costs very approachable,

keep the nearby teachers and governement workers in regular attendance.

We started off by lining our stomachs with the very tasty and succulent ‘shake n bake’ chicken tenders, accompanied with serrano ham and manchego cheeseboard and a side of olives. The serves here are very generous, and we could have stopped after finishing them, however we’re professionals, so onwar

ds we pressed.

Perfectly cooked mussels, in a cider broth arrived next and were devoured quickly with the crusty bread, despite significant belt-buckle tension from the entrees!

The table next to us had the Slow Cooked Beef Ribs in Sticky Porter BBQ Sauce, Slaw & Pretzel, which looked fantastic, and made them very happy. They also have a weekly burger special, to keep the Surry burger n beer crowd stopping in.

About midway through our meal, the band kicked off, doubling down on the already great vibe of the buzzing bar. They also have DJ’s on weekends to get you up and about.

Overall, Sydney Brewery Surry Hills has all the trappings of your next local, with a reat drinks list, very nicely balanced, tasty and affordable food offering with great live music. What more do you need?
