SECOND YAYOI RESTAURANT OUTSIDE ASIA TO OPEN IN GALERIES VICTORIA

Sydney’s Galeries Victoria will be home to one of the most authentic and delicious Japanese eating institutions, as Yayoi opens the doors of its second restaurant outside Asia this Friday, 14 August.

Having opened Yayoi on Bridge Street in June 2014 – which was the first outside Asia – Yayoi’s second Sydney restaurant will offer seven day a week lunch and dinner service.

Yayoi, which is known as Yayoi-Ken in Japan, has more than 270 locations in Japan as well as venues in Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan.

The new 67-seat restaurant will have iPads for ordering ensuring quick service and will be a fantastic addition to the Galeries’ food offering, which includes Lotus Dining, Mero Mero and a planned 2016 opening of The Grounds of Alexandria.

Diners will have an extensive food menu to choose from, including the famous Japanese home-cooked style meals called ‘teishoku’, which consist of rice as the centrepiece served with miso soup, a main dish of meat or fish, and a side dish of vegetables or Japanese pickles.

Another of their signature dishes offered to diners will include the Yayoi Gozen, which is a set ‘tasting plate’ style meal that comes in a traditional box packed with all the delicious flavours you would find if you stepped into one of the restaurants in Asia.

Diners can enjoy the delicious menu items with a broad range of authentic sakes, Japanese and Australian beers and international wines.

The Yayoi Galeries menu has been put together by a team in Japan and also includes some very unique Japanese dishes such as Natto, a fermented soybean dish served with rice and Tororo, which can be described as a sticky potato also served with rice.

The rice served in Yayoi’s Sydney restaurants is ‘kimne’, a polished rice that retains the nutrition found in brown rice while still offering the sweet and rich taste found in white rice, and is exclusively available in Australia throughout Yayoi. Kinme rice does not need to be washed, saving enormous amounts of water – 10,000L of water is saved for every 1,000kg of rice processed.

Yayoi is owned by one of Japan’s largest food service operators, Plenus Co Ltd, which serves more than 300 million meals in Japan alone through its Yayoi-Ken and Hotto Motto restaurants.

“Opening Yayoi in Galeries Victoria brings a truly authentic experience to this growing CBD dining area, with Yayoi’s roots traced back more than 120 years when the first Yayoi-Ken opened in Tokyo.”

As the Galeries opens, Yayoi in Bridge Street is undergoing a refresh and will reopen as Yayoi Garden on 1 September 2015 where diners will be able to experience Japan with eyes, palate and mind.
