Tucked away just off the beach, Bondi favourite Luis Tans has fast become known for its unique flavours, killer drink menu and an eclectic, laid back vibe perfect for a relaxed evening with friends.    So it’s fantastic news for us that they’ve launched a brand new seasonal lunch menu on weekends to sustain us for those long afternoons in the sun.

The new Head Chef Leandro Legname delivers a fresh and light menu that combines the bold flavours of South American dishes with the finesse of Asian food, paying homage to co-owner Gonzales’ Peruvian heritage and head chef Legname’s love of Japanese cuisine.

The plantain crisps with chipotle mayo and yellow fin tuna cheviche are a perfect way to kick off your meal, or simply as a side to enjoy with drinks and conversation.  If cheviche is your thing, then you have to also try the kingfish served with yuzu juice, cucumber, radish and mixed peppers, a light and refreshing accompaniment to a hot summer’s day.

Some of the larger share options if you feel like something a bit more substantial include the chicken anticucho served with bok choy, ginger and chilli, and the LT Bowl, a tantalising mix of quail egg, baby potatoes, charred corn, grilled lettuce, farro, pico de gallo, guasacaca (don’t ask me what it is, but it’s delicious) and cashew sour cream.

The drinks menu is also the stuff of legend, with specialty drinks such as South American wines, a vast selection of Peruvian pisco, rare Japanese whiskys, 18-year old Nicaraguan rum, infused pisco and signature cocktails worth the journey themselves.

In short, Luis Tans new spring lunch menu is everything we want from a Bondi venue – Delicious food with a bit of a twist, a drinks menu that keeps us coming back for more, and a relaxed vibe that depending on our mood, lets us either laze away the afternoon with friends or kick starts our night on the town!
