To be honest, we are pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to getting stuck into some quality craft beer. Whether you enjoy somewhere quiet to sit and enjoy a few cold ones after work, a pub with a view to laze away a Sunday afternoon, or want your craft beer experience to encompass that Friday night party atmosphere, Sydney pretty much has you covered. So with that, here are some of our top spots for craft beer in Sydney!
Keg & Brew
Starting its life as a fairly run of the mill inner-city drinking hole, Keg & Brew has been transformed into a modern gastropub by the same team behind the similarly-titled Dove & Olive. And like the Dove and Olive, craft beer is very much the focus here. There are 30 taps, plus three hand pumps, pouring a stellar selection of ales; much of it from local brewers such as 4 Pines, Young Henrys and Riverside Brewing. Tempe newcomers Willie the Boatman, Marrickville’s Batch Brewing Co and Sydney University-based upstart Angstrom Brewing also make appearances. With one of the city’s largest craft-tap offerings, the Keg and Brew will leave the discerning beer enthusiast more than happy.

Munich Brauhaus/Bavarian Bier Cafe
Having always been wildly popular for their selection of quality imported German beers, the Crafty Bavarian Brewing Co. have branched out and created their own tasty range of craft beers that have taken Sydney by storm. Inspired brews such as Butcher’s Bride Pale Ale and Devil’s Daughter Double IPA (my personal fave!) rival the taste and complexity of any craft options found in Sydney. Combined with the recent renovations of Munich Brauhaus and many of the Bavarian Beer Café locations, the German beer hall vibe creates a festive atmosphere that’s sure to keep people flocking in to sample the brews for a quiet after-work stein or a Friday night on the town.

4 Pines Brewing Company
In what has become a bit of a hot spot for craft breweries in Sydney, the northern beaches again deliver the goods in the form of 4 Pines Brewing Company. 4 Pines has killed it in the Australian craft beer scene in recent years, regularly taking out a top 5 spot in the Hottest 100 Aussie craft beers countdown, and for good reason! Their Manly brewery and pub sits in the perfect location right across from Manly wharf, and their tasting paddle means you can give all of their delicious brews a go without feeling like you’re missing out!
Address – 29/43-45 East Esplanade, Manly

Dove & Olive
This Surry Hills pub has always been a favourite for the after work drinks crew, but really came into its own when it decided that craft beer was going to be its weapon of choice to satisfy thirsty punters . It’s a modern space with well-presented food, but it’s in their expertly curated beer offerings where the Dove & Olive really shines. With a constantly changing selection and both local and international offerings, your best bet is to grab a beer paddle and select from a range of unusual tipples on tap. The now hugely popular pub also features four-course dinners where each stage of the meal is matched to a beer, while their Craft Beer Fight Club — where brewers go head to head in all-out ‘beer war’ to get their brew on tap for a month, is quickly becoming the stuff of legend!
Address – 156 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills

Redoak Boutique Beer Cafe
Sporting a very European feel, Redoak Boutique Beer Cafe brews 40 beers in-house, with around 20 on tap at any one time. Head brewer David Hollyoak has won numerous awards for his work, and having been here numerous times, it’s easy to see why. The Framboise Froment (a Belgian-style ale with fruity notes) or the Bock (a strong, malty German-style lager) are two of their most popular, while the adventurous can also sample the Blackberry Hefeweizen, Oatmeal Stout or the Belgium Choc-Cherry Stout. The food is taken seriously as well, with beer and food matching tasting plates particularly popular. Amber fluid is also part of the desserts – try beer chocolate truffles or beer ice cream to cap off your meal.
Address – 201 Clarence Street, Sydney
