ANZAC Day 2017 is next Tuesday the 25th of April and we think the best way to start it is with a Dawn Service to remember and pay tribute to the fallen. After that, however, it’s on with the grand Australian traditions of drinking from early morning, playing 2Up, eating biscuits and barbequing!
Here are some of our favourite venues in which to do just that:
Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, Watsons Bay
The Argyle, The Rocks
The Argyle will be open early from 11am and is close to the official Parade so perfect to pop into if you’re in the city. The fittingly historic courtyard will be transformed to a giant 2UP arena, where you can try your luck and call come in spinner from 1-3pm.
There are also great food and drink specials available all day with an Aussie BBQ, of course, as well as live entertainment from 11am with Gang of Brothers & Mike Champion band performing live plus DJs Cadell and Chivalry.
The Argyle, 18 Argyle St, The Rocks, Sydney NSW 2000
The Australian Heritage Hotel and The Glenmore Hotel, The Rocks
The Rocks’ iconic pubs, The Australian Heritage Hotel and The Glenmore Hotel team up to create arguably one of the best spots to commemorate ANZAC Day. This is definitely one for the early birds with The Australian open from 6am to welcome veterans, family and friends with a Diggers BBQ breakfast. Cumberland Street becomes the stage for a special performance by The Scots Marching Band and Gloucester Street turns into one of the largest 2-Up arenas in Sydney. For those coming later – or with extra strong stamina – The Glenmore opens at 8am and the rooftop is the perfect spot to end the day with a cold one in hand and overlooking the stunning 180′ views of Sydney harbour.

The Glenmore Hotel, 96 Cumberland Street, The Rocks NSW 2000
Hotel Centennial – Woollahra
Celebrate ANZAC Day in Style with a bespoke Australian and New Zealand themed menu from Executive Chef Justin North including NZ Cloudy Bay clam & sweetcorn chowder, grilled sourdough as well as an indulgent Aussie beef & ale potato top pie & autumn vegetables and a decadent Anzac Pavlova lamington to finish! Live performances from local musicians Benny & Lachie will also feature, with saxophone – the perfect alternative to traditional 2 Up.

Royal Hotel – Paddington
After the success of their Australia Day Laneway takeover, the Royal Hotel in Paddo is once again commandeering the adjacent laneway to host a huge 2Up arena which they say will be the biggest in the East! There will also be the usual Aussie tunes , food and drink specials as well as the footy matches and best of all, they open at 9am with 2 Up from 9.30am so you can get stuck in early.
The Royal Hotel, 237 Glenmore Rd, Paddington, NSW 2021
The Light Brigade, Paddington
The Light Brigade is one of our favourite revamped venues and a great place to salute the ANZAC spirit and celebrate our proud heritage this ANZAC Day. Doors are open at 10m and you can take part in 2Up in the downstairs Brigade Bar while watching all the live sport you can handle, including the Collingwood V Essendon traditional ANZAC Day clash and the Dragons and Roosters going head to head down the road at Allianz Stadium.
If you prefer something more genteel then escape the arena to the enjoy the awesome views on the rooftop or sip a cocktail in the lounge, both opening from 12pm. A special Anzac Day Menu is available 10am – 5pm and a full menu from 5pm.
The Light Brigade Hotel, Corner of Oxford Street & Jersey Road, Paddington NSW 2025
Manly Wharf Hotel, Manly
Manly Wharf Hotel is open from 11.30am so you can commemorate Australian diggers this ANZAC by the water. Enjoy 2-Up on the wharf jetty and while away the afternoon with $16 jugs of One Fifty Lashes or even hit the dancefloor from 5pm with tunes from Sydney’s favourite local DJs.
Manly Wharf, East Esplanade, Manly NSW 2095
The Beach Road, Bondi Beach
Bondi Beach’s infamous Beach Road Hotel is where to head for a more raucous commemoration of the ANZACs. Beachy opens at 9am for breakfast beers and BBQ after the dawn service down at North Bondi RSL. The 2 Up commences at midday on a custom built grandstand upstairs and there are 4 bars over 2 levels as well as the recently refreshed courtyard in which to relax with a cold beer. The divine BL Burgers will keep you well fed and the NRL ANZAC Match live on the big screens plus DJs til late will keep you entertained away from the gaming. But don’t forget to stop and watch the Last Post performed live at 4.30pm

Clovelly Hotel, Clovelly
The Clovelly Hotel claims to have the biggest outdoor two-up arena in the East and it’s certainly one of the more picturesque venues. The Cloey opens from 10am, and there will also be DJs, live bands, screening of the ANZAC Day test and Aussie special at the bistro.
Clovelly Hotel 381 Clovelly Rd, Clovelly NSW 2031
The Beresford Hotel, Surry Hills
