Ethical fashion with an eco-soul, there is no better way to describe The Luxe Project. The brainchild of mother and daughter duo Chutisa and Sharidan Bowman, The Luxe Project began in July 2013, creating stunning bags from the vintage hand-embroidered textiles of South East Asia’s hill tribes.
They are simply divine – from bags, clutches, key rings and yoga mats, each piece is one-of-a-kind.
The Luxe Project commits to sourcing products from sustainable avenues whilst respecting local, cultural and artistic customs and supports producers with a fair price so that they can enjoy a fair profit and receive a living wage.
The Luxe Project’s bags are not factory made but are created by a select few artisans engaged in the cottage industry based in the hills of Northern Thailand. The bags are designed in Melbourne, then made by local female artisans for a fair wage, using the hand embroidered textiles of South East Asia’s Hill Tribe.
Of her Thai roots, Sharidan says, “If we heightened the profile of these hill tribe artisans and what they do even just a little bit I would be profoundly satisfied.”
“Creating a business with a real social purpose with the objective of creating “pattern-breaking social change” is our vision for The Luxe Project,” says Chutisa.
“We want our business to be making a difference around the world by helping women in developing countries to overcome the cycle of poverty and create their own sustainable business opportunities.”

One Thousand Villages is an international NGO working to combat trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of girls in Thailand and across the Mekong region. “One of the outcomes they have achieved is making sure girls have access to better quality education in Thailand.” “This cause is close to our hearts and we hope that beyond our donations we can help create awareness for the organisation and all their positive work.”
