Gold Class: Fit for a Princess
As a diehard Disney addict, I think it’s safe to say I couldn’t wait to see its live action remake of Cinderella – one of my favourite childhood Disney animations. So when I was offered the opportunity to review the film for Sydney Social I jumped at the chance. Furthermore, I got to see the classic fairytale before it officially opened, at Event Cinemas Chicks at The Flicks Gold Class screening, which meant by excitement levels went through the roof.
After an exclusive Frozen short film Frozen Fever (below) there was a buzz of excitement as the film started.

Sticking to the original 1950s animation, the film stays true to the heart of Disney and takes you on an adventure of love as Cinderella finds her Prince. Cate Blanchett is scene-stealing as Cinders poisonous stepmother (she nails it, because, well she’s Queen C), but she could have had more screen time. I also felt Helena Bonham Carter deserved a few more minutes as the Fairy Godmother; the critical scene of getting Cinderella ready for the ball felt way too short and could have been more fun. Lily James is good as the lead character, radiating sweetness at every opportunity as she lives by the motto “have courage and be kind” – a great takeout for us all. Richard “Robb Stark from GoT” Madden is well cast as the Prince and I had a lump in my throat when he lost his dad, the King (I’m a sucker for emotion). The costumes and makeup were outstanding (especially Queen Cate’s), as were the special effects – I loved the mice turning into horses with mouse ears and Cinderella’s dress. All in all it felt a bit long with not enough time dedicated to Cate or Helena, but it’s worth a watch, especially in Gold Class.
As a long-standing fan of the Gold Class experience at Event Cinemas, I have a saying: Once you go Gold Class, you never go back. And after my friend and I snuggled down in our seats, sipped our complimentary glass of sparkling and tucked into our food – part of the Chicks at The Flicks package – my friend certainly agreed with my logic.
The next Chicks at The Flicks is for Pitch Perfect 2 (hell yes!) on Wednesday 6 May at Event Cinemas, Bondi. Book here: http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/EventsPromotions/ChicksAtTheFlicksMay
