As January 2016 has been and gone, we embrace the next ‘new start’ to the year (Jan was just a practice right?!). We’ve teamed up with the lovely (and gorgeous) Pip Reed to chat about keeping those pesky resolutions that we have every intention of doing… but some how get lost along the way…
So you have been planning on losing weight/ cleaning up your diet/ fixing your skin for months and now is the time that you are finally deciding to start.
Trouble is, you feel overwhelmed and don’t even know where to begin, so from the get go, you are already on the back foot!
These are all great resolutions to make, as they will greatly benefit your health, but why not try to make it fun or break it up into smaller goals that are easier to swallow?
Say you want to lose weight. You can set yourself a bunch of smaller, and more exciting goals in order to achieve it. For example, your resolutions can be to exercise for at least 40 minutes 4 mornings a week, try 1 new class per week using Class Pass, drink a glass of warm water and apple cider vinegar 15 minutes before every meal, and swap white bread for rye and chocolate for cacao.
Next thing you know, you have lots weight, created some new positive habits, and had fun while doing it!
MAKE A PLAN FOR YOUR GOAL
It is always a good idea to roadmap your goal!
It is not enough for most people to just say you want to lose weight; you need an action plan to get there.
Use the SMART principal (specific, measureable, attainable, realistic, timed) to help you set your resolutions. So for example, I want to go from a size 12 to a size 10, I will use a tape measure on Friday every week, I will achieve this in 8 weeks which for me personally is both obtainable and achievable.
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Tracking your progress is great for motivation as it will show you how far you have come which is both inspiring and rewarding.
On the flip side, it will also show you what is not working which will indicate that you should tweak your plan or consult a professional to help you get on track.
To track your progress, there are lots of incredible apps and wearable technology such as a fit bit or Apple watch. Many of them will track your weight, steps, energy input and output, calories and more!
DON’T OVER DO IT
It is easy to get carried away and set yourself 100* resolutions come January 1, but for most people, that is just not achievable.
Set yourself 1-3 relevant goals that that you really want to achieve and focus on them. You are better off doing a few things well rather than many things half hearted!
