If you like your margaritas strong, your hot sauce piping hot, your tunes pumping and your tex-mex full of flavour then you are going to LOVE the recently launched El Camino Cantina in The Rocks.
With enough neon signs to light up the Vegas strip, El Camino Cantina is unashamedly Tex-Mex (not Mexican) in every sense of the word: from the food to the drinks and from the music to the décor. The neon-flooded cantina boasts two bars and a spacious casual dining room with an eclectic and eccentric mix of colourful chairs, cosy booths, high topped tables and two beautifully restored 1957 Chevy trunks from which diners can help themselves to complimentary chips and salsas. A lounge area called The 27 Club spills onto a terrace overlooking The Argyle precinct’s cobblestone courtyard.
The food is delicious, flavoursome and not for the faint hearted! El Camino Cantina is all about chilli-fuelled classic Tex-Mex dishes such as tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, nachos, enchiladas and burritos, as well as a ghost chilli BBQ burger and chicken wings made with the world’s hottest chillies (my forehead is sweating just thinking about it). Desserts include churros tossed in cinnamon sugar and served with cajeta (vanilla salted caramel), and spiced dark chocolate pudding with dulce de leche. There’s also a child-friendly menu, including grilled chicken burrito, crispy fish taco and a grilled Angus beef burger. Giant shaken and frozen Margaritas are the stars of the drinks list that also includes imported Mexican and house-brewed craft beers, over 100 different tequila and mescal and sangria.
This Mecca for Tex-Mex enthusiasts promises to be more rowdy than a rodeo with a live mariachi band performing from 5pm-7pm every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Areeba!! El Camino Cantina also offers awesome daily specials including:
Margarita Mondays: specials on strawberry, mango and original frozen and shaken Margaritas
Taco & Tequila Tuesdays: hand-made, $2 corn, flour or hard-shelled tacos and tequila shot specials
