Located in the heart of Surry Hills, is intimate, modern Australian restaurant Fauna. Located in a stunning terrace, Fauna is perfect the perfect culinary oasis for a business lunch or a hot date!
The menu was created by Head Chef Ace Espiritu. He joined the Fauna team with an extensive background working across luxury restaurants, Ace started his culinary journey studying at Ecole Ducasse Manila and has now worked internationally in France, Philippines and Australia, most recently working at the iconic hatted Icebergs Dining Room and Bar.
The menu is Contemporary Australian, but draws heavy inspiration from Italian-Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is small but mighty, the ingredients are super fresh and the flavors and exciting and full!
I recently popped into Fauna for a mid- week dinner and had the most wonderful and delicious time. A stones throw from bustling Crown Street in Surry Hills, Fauna is cosy, friendly and relaxed, making you feel as thought you are dining at a close friends house. The staff are warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and super attentive.
To start we ordered the Arancini with porcini mushrooms, tallegio and truffle pecorino- now I have eaten many arancini in my life and this was hands down the best arancini I have ever eaten! Crunchy on the outside, warm and mushroom and cheese filled on the inside. So good!
Next we shared the Arrabiatta pasta with a generous serve of melt-in-your- mouth Balmain bug, tomato and chilli, and the whole fish with grilled lemon and herb butter. The fish was so soft and light and was paired perfectly with lashings of lemon and herb butter- A must try! On the side we had the charred broccolini with poached garlic and szechuan pepper which beautifully complimented both dishes.
For dessert we devoured the pavlova stack served with layers of cream and topped with a selection of berries!
To ensure each dish is using the freshest ingredients and to ensure food waste is minimal, the Fauna team will only have a limited amount of certain dishes available. However, never fear, each dish is absolutely incredible so you will never miss out!
