Sydney Social 101 had the absolute pleasure of covering thered carpet and yesterday’s sold out 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra. The ARIA Awards, which were held at The Star Event Centre, Sydney and broadcast nationally on TEN capped off an extraordinary year for the Australian music industry.
This year’s event certainly showcased and celebrated what a remarkable year 2014 has been for Australian music and artists. Australian music has been well and truly thrust onto the global stage in 2014 and for the first time the ARIA Awards will be broadcast to millions throughout Asia via Fox International.
Sydney Social 101’s roving team managed to speak to a number of the stars on the red carpet – stay tuned for the video which we’ll share with you today as part of Sydney Social 101’s newly launched You Tube Channel and VLOG element of the group.
Whilst Telstra Album Of The Year recipient, Sia was not in the country to accept her multiple awards (Telstra Album Of The Year, Best Female Artist, Best Pop Release and Best Video), international superstar, Katy Perry entertained the fans delivering a truly memorable moment when she accepted the Best Female Artist ARIA Award on behalf of Sia.
Guests at The Star Event Centre, including Sydney Social 101 and the fans watching on TEN were treated to a performance from multiple 2014 ARIA Award recipient (Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release and Producer Of The Year) Chet Faker delivering a soulful rendition of ‘Talk Is Cheap’.
Chet Faker, who was presented his Best Male Artist Award by 2013 Best Female Artist ARIA Award recipient, Jessica Mauboy who performed her ARIA Top 5 hit, ‘Can I Get A Moment’. They were joined on this year’s phenomenal line up by a raft of 2014 ARIA Award winners, including 5 Seconds Of Summer (Song Of The Year) who have had a sensational week also winning an American Music Award (AMA) for Best New Artist. Sheppard (Best Group) were joined on stage by Melbourne Ska Orchestra for a rousing rendition of their triple Platinum single, ‘Geronimo’. Hilltop Hoods (Best Urban Album) had the crowd on their feet for their ARIA Top 5 single ‘Cosby Sweater’ and Dan Sultan (Best Rock Album) truly rocked the room with his performance of ‘Under Your Skin’. The two legends of song, Paul Kelly and Neil Finn (Best Adult Contemporary Album) delivered a glorious ending to the 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra with their sublime performance of ‘Don’t Stand So Close To The Window’ and ‘Four Seasons In One Day’.

Best International Artist ARIA Award recipients for the third consecutive year, One Direction blew the audience away with their hit single ‘Steal My Girl’. Although Best Breakthrough Artist, Iggy Azalea was not at the Awards, the featured vocalist on her worldwide smash hit, ‘Fancy’, Charli XCX was on stage with previous ARIA Award recipient, Illy to accept the award on Azalea’s behalf.

The 2014 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra kicked off in spectacular style on the Red Carpet Presented By David Jones with Justice Crew performing their hit single, ‘Que Sera’ with the masses of fans delivering a deafening roar of delight for the entire duration of the red carpet parade.

Beloved Australian icon, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum and the show that introduced us to him, Countdown was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame by Marcia Hines and John Paul Young. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd when Molly was inducted is a testament to how loved and admired the first non-artist being inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame is by all. ARIA salutes you Molly.
The 2014 ARIA Industry Icon Award was presented to Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand and President, Asia by his dear friend and Hall Of Fame recipient Molly Meldrum and 2013 ARIA Best Female Artist, Jessica Mauboy at the Chariman’s Cocktail Party. ARIA congratulates Denis on an inspirational 40 years of achievement.
In an ARIA first, fans got closer than ever to the glitz, glamour and behind the scenes action of the awards with CRASHTHEARIAS.COM, a digital experience for mobile, tablets and PCs, developed by presenting partner Telstra.
