Michael joins Mr. Wong with an impressive international pedigree, having spent the last four years presiding over the dim sum kitchen at the prestigious Hakkasan Dubai.  Located at the iconic Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Hakkasan Dubai is famed for its beautifully presented and delicately crafteddim sum selection. The original restaurant in London was the first Chinese restaurant in Europe to be awarded a Michelin star, which it has retained to this day, setting the benchmark for its Emirates jewel. Before Hakkasan, Michael spent three years as Head Dim Sum Chef at InterContinental Hotels Group in Qingdao, China.

Frank Roberts, Merivale’s Food and Beverage Director, said: “Michael is simply outstanding – an innovative dim sum master with an enviable flare and flawless attention to detail.  We’re incredibly excited to welcome him to the Mr. Wong team and cannot wait for him to showcase his talents with a new dim sum menu, set to launch later this month.”

Since opening its doors in August 2013, Mr. Wong has earned a string of highly regarded awards and accolades.  The two-hatted Cantonese restaurant was recently named in The Australian Financial Review’s Top 10 Restaurants of Australia.  In its first year, Mr. Wong won ‘New Restaurant of the Year’ in the 2014 Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Awards, ‘Best New Restaurant’ in the 2013 Time Out Sydney Food Awards and was included in The Australian’s Hot 50 Restaurant List and TheSunday Telegraph’s Top 100 Food Experiences.  The ever-talented Executive Chef, Dan Hong, was also a finalist for ‘Chef of the Year’ in the 2014 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards.
