The Urban Purveyor Group will open one of Australia’s most celebrated Japanese dining destinations, Saké Restaurant & Bar, in Double Bay on Tuesday 16 December. The new restaurant, located on street level under the refurbished InterContinental Hotel, is set to become the heart of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs social scene.
John Szangolies, Proprietor, Urban Purveyor Group says: “We are pleased to be launching a fourth Saké, here in Double Bay alongside the new InterContinental Hotel. This starts a new chapter in Double Bay for hospitality and also new ground for Saké partnering with the InterContinental.”
Building on the reputation established by other Saké hatted locations, including Sydney’s The Rocks, Brisbane and Melbourne, the new Double Bay restaurant will bring a reinvention of Japanese cuisine to the area and carry its own contemporary edge in a unique vibrant setting. With its distinctive flair, it is sure to be the place international visitors and local residents will want to dine and be seen.
Open daily, serving food and beverages from 11am until late, Saké Double Bay features a visually stunning bar, indoor seating for 120, three private dining rooms, a communal dining table seating up to 24 people and an outdoor terrace for up to 30 guests.
Customers can choose to sit at the Sushi Counter and interact with the Sushi Masters who are on hand to guide them through an interactive cultural experience. Guests can either select from menu items or have a bespoke dish crafted for them, all made from the freshest fish sourced and available daily.
To further captivate diners, the restaurant will feature a traditional open and custom made Japanese Robata grill with binchoban charcoal. This allows the Chefs to capture the beauty of authentic Robata cooking with highly caramelized meats, seasonal vegetables and glazes, all finished to perfection over 500ºC of white hot charcoal. First class Australian Wagyu beef, Duck Hearts, Alaskan King Crab and new poultry beloved for its unrivaled freshness, Jidori chicken, will also feature on the menu.
Shaun Presland, Executive Chef, Saké says: “It is great to see new life coming into Double Bay and I’m really excited to be part of it. It’s our first venue with the InterContinental which is new territory and adds some diversity to our portfolio. The food has taken inspiration from Martin Heierling’s (Urban Purveyor Group’s Culinary Director) previous experience with Morimoto in the USA and it is a great chance for us to collaborate and offer something new.”
Customers can indulge in Saké Double Bay’s healthy, fresh and innovative Japanese menu complemented with sophisticated cocktails, premium wines and Champagne. For something different, traditional sake food pairings are also offered as an option.
