In the television categories Peter Allen: The Boy Next Door was the big winner, and young Ky Baldwin won over everyone with his great speeches, firstly for his award as Best Supporting Actor, and then when he accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew when the show won Best Drama or Miniseries. The other highlight of the night was Cate Blanchett’s speech after being awarded the Longford Lyell lifetime achievement award, which started with her saying ‘Oh, I’ve become one of those ridiculous people who cries, it’s just a fucking award.’
Phoenix Woollahra eatery – launch party
Tuesday night saw the launch of the newly refurbished Phoenix Woollahra as media, VIPs and celebrities enjoyed the cool vibes and Mediterranean flair created by brothers William, Alex and Andrew Cooney. Guests were treated to a delicious selection of canapes highlighting the Greek-inspired menu including Beef Carpaccio en croute, miniature lamb gyros and Spanakopita. One of the highlights on a hot summer’s night was the signature ‘I carried a watermelon’ cocktail, with the watermelon, tequila and mint concoction the perfect accompaniment to the laid-back tunes of DJ Luke Petty.
