Bagels have yet to become mainstream on Aussie shores, so finding the New York City breakfast staple in Sydney is no easy feat. One of the only spots in our seemingly metropolitan city to offer authentic versions of the bread product is Brooklyn Hide.

The Surry Hills eatery follows the traditional bagel-making process by first boiling, and then baking them. Poppy seed, sourdough rye, blueberry, and cinnamon raisin bagels are all on the menu, with peanut butter, blueberry jam, jalapeno cream cheese and regular cream cheese as spread choices.

For more of a heartier option, the bagels can be stuffed to the brim with gourmet and basic fillings, such as smoked salmon, prosciutto, spiced tomato, and corned beef. The distinctive-tasting fillings paired with the doughy bagel make for one delicious bite.

While the funky café is known primarily for its bagels, Brooklyn Hide recently extended its menu to offer a slew of other New York-inspired dishes and traditional Sydney breakfast ones. Greenwich Wrap, Highline Salad, and Roast Pumpkin Pancakes are a few of the tasty choices.

The café is open Monday through Saturday, until 5pm weekdays and 3pm Saturday – a rarity in the area. They recently partnered with Suppertime, a lunchtime meal delivery service, to cater to those with NY food cravings, but without the means to trek to Surry Hills for an in-person visit.
