Yup, we know what you’re saying, cos we did too: Air Wick? And Messina?? Together??? What’s going on there? We simply had to find out (as if the offer of getting into the lab at Messina HQ for a tasting wasn’t enough!).

It turns out the unexpected combination of Air Wick and Gelato Messina has produced something clever, unique and utterly delicious.

Using the scientific elements of Air Wick’s new Life Scents range, Messina accepted the challenge of  recreating  several of the evolving scents and turning them into multi-sensory desserts named Edible Life Scents. Taking on this molecular gastronomy challenge to create a feast for the senses the experts at Messina have fused  fragrance and  flavour with science, technology and design.

The result? An exciting limited edition Edible Life Scents dessert degustation that will be showcased in Sydney.  The exclusive events will provide an evolving and intriguing feast for the senses when they become available to try by a lucky few later this week.

Sydney Social 101 were very privileged to be amongst the first to try them out and oh my goodness, they are incredible. First up was the Winter Moments Air Wick Life Scent (baked pear, pie crust, vanilla): this translated into an isomalt pear casing which had a smoking (dry ice) pear consommé poured on top. Then with one tap of the spoon the casing exploded to reveal luscious drops of pie crust and vanilla ice cream. Delicious.

Next was Mystical Garden (marshmallow, rose, raspberry) which started off worryingly when we were given gloves, goggles and blow torches but it was, thankfully, in order to toast the rosewater marshmallow casings around refreshing raspberry sorbet, nicely finished off with a fondant, hand painted twig complete with edible thorns.

And the highlight? Paradise Retreat which took the form of a whole edible tree. Yes! Edible tree – from the pure chocolate branches, mint fondant leaves, coconut petals, cookie crumb soil and the almond crunch nuts encasing cherry sorbet.

I confess, I dug in and ate until I felt sick. And I don’t regret a thing!
