Today marks a year since Double J emerged as triple j’s older sister, launching a whole new space to hear and read in-depth music features and docos, discover new music and relive the music that sound tracked your life. In just 12 months the station has garnered 524,000 weekly listeners, across mobile, online, digital radio and on digital TV. That’s more than half a million music fans finding a new home on Double J.

Myf Warhurst, who leads the station with her daily music show, Lunch with Myf, looks back on Double J’s first year, saying “For me personally, it’s been a dream job. Not only do I get to play great music, I also get to have in-depth discussions with talented folk from all over the world. Whether it’s making Nick Cave laugh or meeting my 80s icon Neneh Cherry, every day around here has been a blast. It couldn’t have happened without our team of talented and dedicated people, and the many musicians who have enlightened us with their passion, knowledge and stories.”

It’s been a huge last 12 months on Double J, which has seen the resurrection of The J FilesPaul Kelly host our first ever Christmas special, Musical Chairs launch with jaw-dropping live performances by Sharon Jones, Shakey Graves, Steve Smyth and Alabama Shakes, our favourite past presenters returned to Beat the Drum Again and Adalita helped us shine a light on GOD’s underground classic My Pal. Each Sunday our Artist In Residence has provided their musical knowledge, with everyone from Robert Forster to Adalita and Missy Higgins to Iggy Pop jumping in to lend us their expertise and often very sizable record collections (we’re looking at you, Henry Rollins). We’ve also given some of our favourite musicians, comedians and actors a chance to program an hour of Double J on The SpotGareth Liddiard paid tribute to his favourite women, Mark Ronson laid down an hour of life-changing funk jams and Sharon Van Ettenproved why her friends call her DJ Whatever. We’ve shot videos (some silly, some breathtaking), made people angrygiven an award to the Australian artist we thought dominated 2014 and gone very, very deep into the careers of some of the best musicians and musical movements around.
