While Australia swears by the ‘fresh is best’ philosophy, two French expats are shaking things up, daring to tread into the realm of frozen cuisine with their venture, Delidoor. Founded at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Delidoor is on a mission to redefine frozen food in Australia and is inviting Australians to reconsider their dining habits.

Their food is incredible and has that nostalgic home cooked quality, which is often lacking with frozen meals. The delicious meals,  include Lamb Shepherds PieBeef Bourguignon and Pork Ragu can be ordered via Delidoor.com.au

Their Executive Chef, Sebastien, another French-Aussie hybrid, crafts meals that not only stand up to but often surpass the ‘fresh food’ cultural expectation. “Our meals are delicious, nutritious, and preservative-free. The idea is to make even the most skeptical consumer say, ‘Wow, I can’t believe this is frozen!'” says Jacques.

With an eye on their next chapter, Delidoor is launching a crowdfunding campaign, allowing everyday Australians to invest in the company. The funds will be used to develop new single-serve meals, forge partnerships with NDIS and home care providers, and create a more personalized online ordering experience.

Challenging Cultural Norms

The duo behind Delidoor, Jacques and Mathieu, are both busy parents who struggled with the daily chaos of meal planning, shopping, and cooking. When they couldn’t find a convenient solution, they created their own—taking a leaf from France’s Picard, proving that if the French can embrace quality frozen meals, then so can Australians.

From Zero to $2.6 Million in Record Time

What started as an idea born out of personal necessity soon scaled to an annual revenue of $2.6 million in FY23, with 25,000 meals going out each month from their commercial kitchen in Botany, Sydney. “We strongly believe that good food plays an essential role in our lives. We wanted to offer a hassle-free experience without sacrificing taste or nutrition,” says Mathieu.
