On November 4 and 5,  iconic Sydney precinct The Entertainment Quarter will burst with life, featuring Latin American musical acts, street art installations, food vendors, and exhilarating lucha libre wrestling in honor of Mexico’s cherished holiday, Dia de los Muertos, or ‘Day of the Dead.’ This two-day celebration seeks to raise awareness of the Mexican community and introduce a delightful range of traditional food and beverages to festivalgoers, all in commemoration of this time-honored holiday that brings families together.

The Dia de los Muertos Fiesta will showcase some of Sydney’s most authentic Mexican eateries, including Rosa Cienfuegos, Carbon, and Baja Seafood. These establishments will offer specially crafted menus that highlight various regions and styles of Mexican cuisine. Fiesta attendees will have the chance to savor the delectable offerings from Rosa Cienfuegos, renowned as Sydney’s ‘Tamale Queen,’ and experience the South American ‘parrilla’ techniques and rich flavors from Bondi’s Carbón as well as the fresh coastal Tijuana-style cuisine from the newly opened Baja Seafood.

To complement the Mexican culinary delights, the presenting sponsor, Jarritos, will present a menu featuring Mexican beers, Horchata (a spiced rice drink infused with cinnamon and vanilla), and an array of popular soft drinks. A Patrón Tequila pop-up bar will serve classic cocktails like margaritas and palomas, along with a tequila masterclass where attendees can sample premium tequilas and gain insights into the intricacies of tequila production.

No Dia de los Muertos celebration would be complete without the traditional ofrendas display, featuring marigold flowers, candles, sugar skulls, and cherished mementos. A tattoo station hosted by visiting Mexican Australian artist Skullavera will showcase designs inspired by calaveras and other traditional symbols. Additionally, a sacred Cacao Ceremony led by Frido Cacao will provide an opportunity for revelers to reflect and connect with their inner selves.

The festivities will be enlivened by a live mariachi band, local DJs, and the melodious tunes of ‘Latino Australiano’ artist Carlos C Major, ensuring a lively two-day celebration. Folkloric dance performances and lucha libre wrestling will add to the excitement, while kids can enjoy face painting, crafts, and engaging games that offer insights into the vibrant culture of Mexico.

The inaugural Sydney Dia de los Muertos Fiesta is proudly presented by Jarritos, Mexico’s leading soft drink brand founded in the 1950s and available in over 44 countries worldwide, including Australia.
