Westward Whiskey, a portfolio of award-winning single malts reimagined in the American Northwest, has partnered with the renowned natural wine merchants P&V Wine and Liquor, to celebrate American drinks culture through an exclusive whiskey and wine event.

For one night only, on Wednesday 24th November, Sydneysiders will have the opportunity to taste and talk through a selection of unique whiskeys and wine from United States with Founder and Master Distiller of Westward Whiskey – Christian Krogstad – and drinks journalist, presenter, co-owner of P&V and Brian Wines – Mike Bennie.

Guests will be taken on a journey of discovery through whiskey, wine, conversation, and American inspired snacks by P&V Paddington’s chef Wes Jones. Drinks on the night will include:

  • Westward American Single Malt: Born of the unique culture, climate and abundant resources of the Northwest, this elevated American original demonstrates Westward’s craftsmanship and creativity. This distinct, rich, and brazen drop is robust and full of flavour, created from locally malted barley and brewed with ale yeast. It is then matured to perfection in new, lightly charred American Oak barrels in Oregon, where their hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters are the ideal environment to raise a world class whiskey.
  • Westward Whiskey Stout Cask: A celebration of Oregon’s legendary brewing culture, this whiskey grew out of Westward’s longstanding cask-trading tradition among a select group of beer producers in the Northwest. Like its predecessor, this single malt is meticulously crafted using the same distilling and fermenting process, however, is then aged to finish in Stout beer casks, giving it a bold, dry finish.
  • Brian Wines: Conceived in Tasmania, almost a decade ago by winemakers Peter Dredge (Dredgey), Joe Holyman and P&V co-founder, wine writer, Rootstock Sydney festival co-founder, Mike Bennie. The trio decided to produce a small range of wines reflecting alternative styles to the Tasmanian mainstream. All fruit is hand-picked, and wines are wild-fermented and see no additions, nor filtering or fining, with zero or small doses of sulphur. In 2017 the first Oregon vintages of Dr Edge and Brian Wines Oregon were born, mirroring what was being made in Tassie, using nearly identical winemaking approaches (not to mention under the same names) to see how they would look from the other side of the planet.
  • Westward Whiskey Pinot Noir Cask: The elegant Pinot Noir Cask reflects the vibrance of the Willamette Valley’s signature grape, Pinot Noir, while allowing the bold, robust notes of the whiskey to shine through. The Pinot Noir Cask begins with our original Westward American Single Malt, which is then finished for up to two years in French Oak wine casks from a handful of award-winning producers in the region.

For avid fans of American whiskey and the culture surrounding it, anyone curious about the relationship between whiskey and wine, or even Americans yearning for a taste of home, this event is not to be missed.
