Matteo is a vibrant neighbourhood trattoria located in the heart of Double Bay. Matteo Double Bay brings the spirit of the Southern Italian lifestyle and the culture and flavours of the Amalfi Boast to Sydney.  Matteo serves flavourful food for the soul inspired by iconic Italian coastline Campania; the birthplace of pizza, and a region where wood-fired fare, fresh mozzarella, locally-grown tomatoes and seafood are at the heart of dining. With alfresco and indoor dining options, an extensive beverage menu and incredible food to suit every taste bud, Matteo is  must visit for locals and visitors alike!

Recently Sydney Social 101 visited  Matteo Double Bay for dinner and it did not disappoint. After being warmly welcomed and seated in the bougainvillea covered alfresco dining area, we ordered some drinks and antipasti. For drinks we enjoyed a bottle of the NEGRAMANTE Negroamaro Salento PGI – IT – highly recommend. If you are not drinking try the No Spritz cocktail – Non Alcoholic Aperol, Non Alcoholic Prosecco, Aranciata Rossa. As we sipped on our drinks we enjoy the light, crispy and cheese filled tempura zucchini flowers stuffed with buffalo ricotta, asparagus and  lemon zest.

We shared mains as it was too hard to choose just one dish to try! We shared the not to be missed, simple yet flavourful Spicy Vodka Rigatoni and woodfire Napoletana pizza topped with  San Marzano Tomato, Garlic, Oregano, Cetara, Anchovies, Capers and Black Olives. On the side we enjoyed Green Beans with delicious Butter Parmesan and crunchy hazelnut pieces.

Dishes we will def be coming back to try include the Baby Linguine Cocco All’ Amalfitana with Braised Seafood Sauce, Baby Octupus, Calamari, Prawns, Vongole, Mussels and Chilli, and the Pera and Gorgonzola pizza with Fior di Latte, Gorgonzola cheese, Pear, Honey, Ricotta, Parmesan chips AND the Fremantle Charcoal Octopus, Smoked Eggplant Puree’, Crispy Polenta, N’duja Crumble and Mint Infusion.

I am such a sweet tooth and although I couldn’t fit in dessert I made room- and I am so glad I did! For dessert we shared the Chocolate Bomboloni. Five warm, sugar covered, Nutella filled, dough balls of goodness- They were incredible and I can not recommend them enough!
